WE UNDERSTAND . . . it can be confusing to follow along and worship when you are unfamiliar with our service. First - don't be shy or embarrassed to ask for guidance. Ushers are there to help but they can't assist if they don't know you have questions. Or ask those sitting around you. We want everyone to have the most rewarding experience possible.
We use the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book (Oct. 2006). (Pictured above) Every pew should have plenty of books for everyone. If additional worship books are needed, please inform an usher or ask those sitting around you for any extras. Large print Worship books are available from the usher.
When you enter the Sanctuary, the usher will provide a bulletin such as above. Large print bulletins are available for the asking.
The bulletin will help you navigate the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book.
- Sections marked as pg. are located in the front of the book and the page number is printed on the bottom of the worship book.
- Sections listed in bold # are located in the back of the book and the page number is printed on the top of the worship book.
- Sections listed in bold (Bible-pg.) are located in the front of the book and the page number is printed on the bottom of the worship book.
- On occasion we will sing a psalm (in unison or responsively by verse as announced) between the first and second readings. The Psalms are located toward the front of the book after pg. 338; this section is marked by a colored tab PSALMS.
Everyone is welcome and invited to worship. Children are encouraged to participate especially in sermons and service. Bags with small toys and books are available for borrowing in the entry hall.
Children are encouraged to participate especially in sermons and service. Pastor Allyn has a special 'Children's Sermon' prior to regular sermon and all children are encouraged to join her in front of the altar for stories and prayer.
Holy Communion is offered at all worship services. All who make profession of Christian faith are welcome to receive Holy Communion. You are invited to come forward for a blessing if you do not wish to receive the sacrament.
At the appropriate time the usher will indicate when your row is to go forward for communion. If unable to come forward please ask the usher to notify the pastor and communion will be brought to you. At the 8:00 AM service, wine is offered in the pouring chalice only. At the 10:30 AM service, wine is offered in the pouring chalice and the common cup. As you move towards the front of the church, an acolyte will be holding a wooden rack with communion cups. To receive wine from the pouring chalice, please take an empty cup. Grape juice is available in pre-filled glasses.
At the altar rail you may either kneel or remain standing. Pastor distributes the communion host (wafer or bread) to each person individually while saying, "The body of Christ given for you". Pastor will place the host in your hand. You may either place the host into your mouth or wait to dip it into the wine chalice (intinction). Some people prefer Pastor place the host into their mouth.
The Worship Assistant distributes the communion wine. As the Worship Assistant stands before you, offer up your communion cup. The Assistant Pastor will pour wine into the empty cup while saying, "The blood of Christ shed for you". If you have selected grape juice, the blessing will be said over the communion cup.
An acolyte will follow the Worship Assistant collecting used communion cups. You are welcome to remain at the altar while offering silent prayers. Upon completion of receiving communion, please return to your seat.
Sunday School is a time for everyone from children to adults to learn about God.
At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, our goal is to make everyone comfortable while learning about and sharing God's love. To that end, we are happy if you decide to join us for worship, fellowship, or any of our numerous activities. Unless indicated otherwise, we do not have a dress code. Some members opt to wear "Sunday best" clothing. Others prefer business casual, while others prefer everyday casual including shorts. The wearing of clothing supporting the various sports' team is encouraged. We just ask that any clothing worn with slogans be non-offensive and that all clothing be modest.
Visitors are invited to sign the guest book before you leave. If you would like to know more about us please ask the Pastor for an information packet. Please do not feel obligated to give an offering. Your gifts are welcome, of course, but your time and presence today are enough for now. We hope that you will return!
